There is te famous Toad Rock on a hill. It looks like a toad about to jump in the lake. By the side of the lake, there is a path leading to Sunset Point. Raghunath Temple and Maharaja Jaipur Palace are also located on the hills near the Lake. Finally, a trip to the lake is incomplete without the peaceful boat ride. A perfect getaway to nature’s lap, the Nakki Lake will add some memorable moments to cherish all through.

Nakki Lake is about a half mile in length and a quarter of mile broad also has a quite interesting history as well. One historical story explained that it was dug out from nails by gods for the protection against demon ‘Bashkali’. Another romantic history was of Rasia Balam, a sculpture of Dilwara Jain temple and Kings daughter name Kunwari Kanya. King put up the challenge of digging of the lake in one night and he will marry his daughter to that one. It is believed that Rasia Balam dug a lake overnight with his nails. Later Queen refused to marry their daughter.


Some also believed that Rasia Balam was an aged sage and was the incarnation of Lord Shiva and the teenager was the embodiment of Ma Parvati. Due to betrayal, they will again come back to complete their love. The famous poem ‘Lost Love’ describe their story very well.

Temple of Rasiya Balam and Kunwari Kanya (king’s daughter)’s is located behind the Dilwara Jain temple. Nakki Lake has a very calm and romantic atmospher around it. Shri Raghunathji Temple, Toad Rock and the Maharaja Jaipur Palace in Mount Abu are very close to it. Bandits love, sunset point is located near to it. On 12th February 1948, Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes were immersed in Nakki Lake and Gandhi Ghat was built alongside it.

Boating at Nakki Lake

A visit to Mount Abu is incomplete without boating in the pristine waters of Nakki Lake. As you sail through, you can enjoy the mesmerizing views of majestic hills, nature and strangely shaped rocks surrounding the lake. There are two types of boats available, the pedal boats and the Shikharas. The refreshing boating experience lasts for thirty minutes in which you take a tour of the entire Nakki Lake.

Things to do near Nakki Lake, Mount Abu

Lake Nakki, Mount Abu is an excellent picnic spot and offers awe inspiring views of the surroundings. It also is a perfect place to go for boating and other adventures. Lake Nakki at Mount Abu is surrounded by scenic hillocks, beautiful parks and peculiar rock formations. The tourists will also come across a lot of luxurious and stylish summer houses that were once the retreats of the Maharajas and their families. There is also a temple, which is dedicated to the Hindu deity Raghunathji, by the lake.

Best time to visit Nakki Lake


The Nakki Lake can be visited throughout the year. However, the best time to explore it is during monsoons and winters. The temperature lingers around 30 degrees Celsius in monsoons, and it does not fall below 12 degrees Celsius in winters. The lush greenery enhances the beauty of the lake in the monsoons. Summers are comparatively hot in Mount Abu as the mercury soars up to 39 degrees. Therefore, it is better to avoid visiting between March-June. You should prefer exploring the scenic lake from July to January.

When it comes to the best time of the day, it is better to visit in the morning. The place tends to get too crowded in the evening.

How to Reach Nakki Lake

The Nakki Lake is located on Ganesh Road, near the main market in Mount Abu. It can be easily reached through a cab or a taxi. You can hire an autorickshaw also.
